Home is Where the Heart Is Jesus said, "Lay not up for yourselves threasure on earth, where moths and rust corrupt and theives break through and steal. Instead, lay up treasure in heaven where moth and rust does not corrup and thieves cannot steal. For where your treaseure is, there will our heart be also." (Matthew 6:19-21.) The Lord demands first place in our lives above everything and everyone. While we have obligations to love our families and support them, still they cannot take priority over serving the Lord (Matthew 10:37.) The Christian's life should be one of priorities and Jesus makes it plain that our treasure should be stored in heaven. Our treasure is what we value most. And what we value most is what we will put our heart into. For some, money and the accumulation of things is of greatest valuse thus their time and energy is consumed with material wealth. Thus, if attending service has to be sacrificed or morality must be compromised, then so be it. For some, children are a treasure. True, children ar a gift from the Lord and should be treasured (Psalms 127) but don't take it too far. Parents are often heard saying that they will work as many jobs as possible because their children aren't going to do without the things the parents did without growing up. But what children need is the love of God-fearing parents and not things. Everyone must ask themselves where their treasure really is. Someone once said that "home is where the heart is." If our heart is in our earthly home and all the worldly attractions around us, we are not going to lay up our treasure in heaven. Our heart follows our treasure and from the simple rule stated by Jesus, we can easily see where our heart is. We can also see where our heart will be in the future. One reason so many have no interest in the things of God is because they have no treasure there. If we refuse to put treasure into the Lord's service, we will not have any heart in it. Do you think, talk, and plan about going to heaven now? Or do you think it will be nice to go there once you have enjoyed all this life has to offer? Answer carefully and know where your treasure is. |
