New Sermon Series Starts Today Christianity had divided into protestant denominations but some were not satisfied with the state of religion. Those involved in the Restoration Movement in America could not accept the division they saw around them. A plea went out to unify on the basis of the Bible. “Speak where the Bible speaks and be silent where the Bible is silent” was the phrase that best summed up the plea. The Restoration movement saw thousands of people turn from division and accept simple Bible teaching. The Restoration movement sought to return to the practice of the New Testament church. Certainly this was needed since there was so much division over practice, organization, worship, and salvation. However, there must be a study of attitudes that lead to proper practice. Churches today would do well to learn about the church of the first century and pattern themselves after what is revealed in scripture. Jesus said he would build his church (Matt. 16:18) and it is of paramount importance that we model our congregation after what the Lord built. We want to make sure our practices are according to scriptures but we also want to make sure our attitude toward the Lord is what it should be. It is very easy to allow the cares of the world to run our lives instead of Christ. In our new series, we will examine the churches of the New Testament. Beginning with the first church - Jerusalem– we will look at what they did and how they did it. Thus we know we have the practice right. But we will also examine the saints themselves. We will see what they did and their good attitudes. We will also see what they did wrong and how we can avoid the same mistakes today. Our goal is to make Camden Avenue a model of New Testament Christianity for all to see.
